Product Description

Once this city used to pulse with energy; dirty and dangerous, but alive and wonderful. Now it is something else. The changes came slowly at first. Most did not realise or did not care, and accepted them. They chose a comfortable life. Some didn't. They became our clients.

In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes. In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed, your sister has been framed and now you are being hunted. You are a Runner called Faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story.

Mirror's Edge delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith's world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous.

Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city you will learn how to run. From the makers of the groundbreaking Battlefield franchise, Mirror's Edge is an action-adventure experience unlike any other.

  • Move Yourself: String together an amazing arsenal of wall-runs, leaps, vaults and more, in fluid, acrobatic movements that turns every level of the urban environment to your advantage and salvation.
  • Immerse Yourself: In first-person every breath, every collision, every impact is acutely felt. Heights create real vertigo, movements flow naturally, collisions and bullet impacts create genuine fear and adrenaline.
  • Challenge Yourself: Fight or flight. Your speed and agility allow you not only to evade, capture and perform daring escapes, but also to disable and disarm unwary opponents, in a mix of chase, puzzles, strategy and intense combat.
  • Free Yourself: Runner vision allows you to see the cit

4 out of 5 stars mirrors edge   June 19, 2010

Mirrors edge is a relatively exciting prospect for fans of EA as it shows they are still open to trying new styles of games out (rather than being know just for there succesfull sport franchise) and succedes.

the game is a first person , parkour(free running) game set in the future where politicians and police are running wild and controlling all information in the city. the only way to send documents safely is through runners, this is where we meet faith, she is the main character for this story and finds herself in the middle of the political struggle.

The gameplay is fast and furious as you jump over rooftops and scale buildings. the prospect and variety of moves seems difficult to begin with , but thanks to a nifty tutorial level at the beggining of the campaign , you are eased into it. the campaign is relatively short , less than a days worth of play even on the more difficult modes, however when you consider the pace you go at through the campaign , its understandable how the game can fly past so easily. aids in the gameplay consist of runner vision , which shows up doorways and ledges in a bright red to help you geet to your destination and a reticule in the center of the screen , this is here to help lower motion sickness.

The graphics of the game are beautiful, the bustling city around you is well created , albeit you only see glimpses of it as the game does lead you on a certian route.

the longevity of the game is increased slightly by time trials which allow you to show off your ability to the world, this is surprisingly fun compared to other time trials and i often found myself going back trying to beat my ghost.

Overall , the game is good but with more work it could have been great

I agree that this game looks amazing but it was sooooo difficult that I just gave up. Who wants to spend hours trying to jump a wall? Not me.

2 out of 5 stars Pure frustration in game form   May 14, 2010

I wanted to like Mirror's Edge, I really did. From the first screens and videos released online, I loved the minimalist, clean look. The central concept is solid too; first person free running, replacing the floating gun of most first person games with a real feeling of momentum and connection to your on-screen avatar (tilt the camera downwards: ooh look! I have legs!).

The first few minutes are filled with promise. I put some early missteps and plummets from a great height down to a learning curve with the controls but as the game wound on, and I fell to my death again and again (and again and again) it became clear that something was up. Where I'd hoped to glide effortlessly across the rooftops, vaulting and ducking under barricades, I was moving with all the fluidity of an arthritic tortoise - misjudging jumps, bouncing off walls I was trying to run across, and flapping wildly at enemies I was trying to humanely disarm.

I often draw a contrast between Mirror's Edge and Assassin's Creed II (PS3); in Assassin's Creed II, when I misjudge a jump or fall off a building, I know and feel that it's been my fault. In Mirror's Edge, every misstep feels like poor game design and badly implemented controls.

Hopefully any sequel will address these concerns, because there's a good game in here somewhere. But when I got to a certain point in level 7 and the game froze completely - on three separate occasions - I took it as a sign and wrenched the disc from my PS3, never to be reinserted.

3 out of 5 stars In one word: different   April 28, 2010

Mirrors Edge is really one of its kind. The gameplay is oriented at jump run combined with some shooting and fighting, although mostly you can survive without directly fighting.

While following the story you need to run, jump, slide, walljump, crawl etc. to find your way through the levels, which is really something new and entertaining although very frustrating when it comes to precise controls and timings.
The game has a short introduction and implemented help indications to show you where to go and I really needed it to survive sometimes.

The graphics are hard to describe, I really suggest to view some videos to get a feeling for it. The graphics afterall look good, yet suffer a bit of depths, anti-aliasing and detail.

The story got me somewhat bored, maybe because it was at some point just too hard to concentrate on it because of jumping failures and multiple startovers.

It's hard to advice this game still I d maybe rebuy it for its actual very low priced budgetarea. It's a different, innovative piece of gameplay which could ve been better and less frustrating at some point. If you feel to try something new and dont mind to loose a few bucks in the worst then I d say: Go for it!

3 out of 5 stars It takes a bit of getting used to but it's fun   January 18, 2010

As someone who always tried to find out how to see my character rather than playing first person I wasn't sure if I was going to like this. I rented it to see what is was like and it's enjoyable enough but not the best game in the world.

You're a runner, basically a bit of an underworld messenger girl and your sister is framed for murdering a politician who was going to make a difference in the city. That's basically it as far as plot goes.

The graphics are very simple too and the cut scenes are done like stylised Japanese animation, no depth here at all, just blocks of colour, usually bright white, green, orange or red. Which personally I didn't mind because it gave everything I very stark feel.

The controls do take a bit of getting used to and I still struggle with the wall walk and it's strange playing a game where all you see is the hands and legs, especially when the character rolls. But if you're used to FPS games like Doom it won't be difficult to get the hang of it. One thing I didn;t like was the combat. The combat comes last in this game so it's a bit of an after thought and it shows. it consists of running up to the guy shooting you, disarming him and, if you decide go the pacifist route, dropping the gun. it makes fighting even only three or four people a bit of a challenge and very frustrating. It is possible to disarm from behind but I've never had
the chance to use it.

The odd thing about this game is it's hard to categorise. It's not a fighting game, or a puzzle game, or an RPG. Platform/adventure is probably about as close as you're going to get. You're running either on top of buildings or through corridors so all you need to do is find a route to the next place.

All in all a very simple game but different, recommended if you just want to kill an hour or so of the day.

Buy/rent if:

- you don't want to spend hours figuring out a battle plan
- you appreciate simplicity in amoung all the graphics heavy games out there, this just doesn't hold up against that
- you don't want something too taxing
- you like basic gameplay, simple controls and like platformers

Avoid if:

- you like an in depth story and want to be involved in the characters
- you don't like anything in the first person
- you're going to spend the game watching the blocks of colour serving as corridor walls.
