Amazon.co.uk Review If you think you've seen all that online shooters have to offer you haven't experienced MAG. Instead of just a dozen or so people in small scale confrontations this battlefield is filled with 256 other players, all working together in their own 8-man squads. MAG is short for "Massive Action Game" | Take to the skies in helicopters and jets or sit back and call in the airstrikes | Being a team player is the best way to get ahead in MAG | Winning the war means taking control of key areas on the huge battlefield maps | Although you can play the game as a standard first person shooter working together with your teammates is the only way to succeed, with each squad pursuing different tactics and objects - from directing air strikes, to taking part in parachute drops and overrunning enemy gun emplacements. As you gain more experience in the game your character's abilities and weapons will improve and evolve, with the best players earning the right to command more and more people and take a greater strategic role in the wider conflict. About the Developer: Zipper Interactive Many developers have their own specialities and Zipper's is definitely tactical shoot 'em-ups. The Washington-based studio has been responsible for almost all the SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs games and is currently working on the 256-player MAG. They were acquired by Sony in 2006.

| Customer Reviews: 256 players. Huge maps. Unique game modes. Is it any good? August 10, 2010 Teggfd (London, UK) As someone with lots of experience with fps since the very beginning and clan experience in pc fps I have to say this the best online fps I have played in recent times.
I took part in the beta and that was quite rough which resulted in me not buying the game at first. Recently got the game last month through pure luck. Feeling tired of the current crop of fps there has not been much in the way of fresh ideas or advancement. I was quite pleased and surprised to learn that the game has been very well made and tweaked to perfection after release. Gone are the silly issues in the beta and now we have possibly the most balanced set of abilities in any fps.
First aspect of the game to point out that its very tactical. Easily the most tactical fps to date. So good leadership and teamwork are key. This is not Call of Duty neither is it Bad Company or Killzone. Having said that dont be intimidated, there is alot to aid you from a special 3d map to the HUD displaying what you need to know. The objectives are always clear and the game types allow for different playstyles. Also Feel free to tell people you are new and many should help if you are confused. The community is quite nice. The game modes are brand new and not retreads of what already exist. This in a large part helps the game feel fresh as old game modes are rather tiring now and mostly designed for basic deathmatch fps not games like MAG.
The maps are huge but extremely well designed. There is alot of cover unlike more recent fps. You have room to sneak around as well as going run and gun or lone wolf. Guns are used better than other games as there is room for each ability. For example long range assault rifles with scopes have genuine use over red dot sight or snipers where in other games would be the snipers job. Snipers go even further in MAG where you literally almost see tiny dots, fortunately you have different scopes and a variable scope too. I hope that gives an idea of scale and weapon balance. But everything is there and has good use allowing lots of playstyles.
On the downside I recommend new players to avoid Valor. They are quite disorganised! Graphics are weaker than many fps but that because of the sheer scale which makes it very impressive. Amazingly its not that far behind Call of Duty in looks. Besides the gameplay and fun factor are more important than anything and that where this game truly shines! The future of the game also seems bright with patches adding more content in the way of guns and the maybe even possibility of 3 way battles, instead of the traditional two way system.
All in all highly recommended and its nice to be part of this game as I am sure many games will copy MAG in the future.
MAG August 3, 2010 Alyboy Fantastic that it's online only possible with huge numbers of players and the character customisation is really cool which enables different tactics. At first the bigger maps seemed really chaotic to me and I thought the gameplay was a bit of a mess, but once you get to grips with it it can be great fun (albeit totally unrealistic)
Come on we need new Recruits July 19, 2010 James Murray Dillon (London, UK) First off, Its not an easy game to get into... You will die a lot whichever faction (PMC: raven, Sver, Valor) you join. But you will gradually learn the ropes and how to survive to help your 8 man squad kick butt.
It helps to have a MIC especially as this really is a team game and you will find that being able to communicate adds another dimension to the game. Then you will find yourself being immersed in the game at its best. Upto 256 players on the same map, your squad has objectives to meet whether defending or attacking, and each battle contributes the the overall game totals for the three PMCs.
As you play along the way to veteran status in your chosen PMC you may meet up with likeminded players and join a clan. Play with the same people regularly, learn how to get additional XP and build up your skills to become a specialist in your chosen field. Maybe you are a medic, an engineer or a commando... Most squads need someone in each role to win on the battlefield.
If you pick it up at a bargain price come join the online MAG gaming community.
NOTE:
- MAG is Online ONLY. There is NO offline mode at all.
- The graphics are not as high as MW2 due to the map sizes and player numbers.
- You will die a lot !! dont worry, keep at it and you will get better.
review on MAG June 19, 2010 Mrs. Hj Brockbank (UK) An early note for any person who likes mw2 and cod too much is that this game is not for them who run in without support and try shooting down anyone with an unscoped sniper rifle. Do not listen to other comments about slow re spawning and bad aiming because they need a change from BC2 and cod.
This game is overall a very good combat and teamwork game. In each game you are assigned to a squad of 12 people (I think) into a team into a platoon of 4 squads and in some games into a team of 4 platoons. In each section (squad, platoon, team) there is a leader that can set frago objectives that gains you more experience points so in a word it not only helps you as a squad to get a task done faster but it pays in points. This is only one aspect to the game but there is so many others. Of course it may not have block buster graphics or the best aiming system. But it has an sharp edge on the leading war games that I think should be an necessity to all games.
Short MAG review June 14, 2010 Mr. K. J. Kiernan (UK) I have had MAG since March 2010 but never really got into it mainly because i was so hooked on the COD series and to go to this was a big change as the weapons are hard to get the hang of because -
You only have 3 weapons to start off with + side arm .
Guns always seem underpowered
With base spec its hard to get many kills
Having stated the above if you keep at it you will get to a point where you can add a few attachment to your weapon and then it gets fun i would strongly advise you have a mic since this game is about communicating with your squad , not only that you can also ask for advice .
