Product Description

Please Note: Online Mulitplayer Only, Internet Connection required

If you think you've seen all that online shooters have to offer you haven't experienced MAG. Instead of just a dozen or so people in small scale confrontations this battlefield is filled with 256 other players, all working together in their own 8-man squads.

Although you can play the game as a standard first person shooter working together with your teammates is the only way to succeed, with each squad pursuing different tactics and objects - from directing air strikes, to taking part in parachute drops and overrunning enemy gun emplacements.

As you gain more experience in the game your character's abilities and weapons will improve and evolve, with the best players earning the right to command more and more people and take a greater strategic role in the wider conflict. This is all out virtual war on a scale that has never been possible before on a home console.
Key Features

  • 256 reasons: The largest scale online shooter ever seen on a console, with 256 people playing across maps in gigantic mile-wide levels.
  • Brothers in arms: Become the leader of your own squad of 8 players, then work your way up to platoon and company commander as you gain more and more control of the battlefield.
  • Veteran soldier: Earn experience in battle (and by following orders) and upgrade your character, your weapons and your ability to call in airstrikes and artillery.
  • Top gun: Take command of a range of different vehicles, including tanks, armoured personnel carriers and aircraft.

The big three: Join one of three factions, from the U.S. army style Valor group to the more unorthodox S.V.E.R and the futuristic Raven team.

MAG is short for "Massive Action Game"
Take to the skies in helicopters and jets or sit back and call in the airstrikes
Being a team player is the best way to get ahead in MAG
Winning the war means taking control of key areas on the huge battlefield maps

About the Developer: Zipper Interactive
Many developers have their own specialities and Zipper's is definitely tactical shoot 'em-ups. The Washington-based studio has been responsible for almost all the SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs games and is currently working on the 256-player MAG. They were acquired by Sony in 2006.

2 out of 5 stars A huge let down.   March 8, 2010

I won't waste my time writing up a big review I'll just lay down my opinion in byte sized chunks, terrible lag so getting kills is harder than it should be, horrible feel to guns, this game could of been great if they weren't more concerned with getting as many people into a game as possible while making everything else rubbish.

But that's just my opinion, played it once, never picked it back up.

I had seen all the previews and thought that this looked something special, with its enormus maps and large player numbers, but having played it for over a month i found it slow and full of glitches. i found this quite disapointing

4 out of 5 stars Massive Action Game - Does it live up to its name?   March 2, 2010

In a short answer yes. But let me walk you the long way round that answer.

Upon first load of the game you create a character and you have to then choose a side of a 3 way battle. Once you have made your choice you get to the menus and you can start to explore the game. I would advise looking over your character load outs before starting your MAG Career.

There is a levelling system with MAG that allows a player to advance in skill and also unlocks extra attachments for your equipment as well as extra game types. You start out with only the Training available along with the 32 v 32 player Suppression game type which can become monotonous when playing solidly on your first go. However a few levels in and you unlock more game types until finally at level 8 you get access to all game types and the game starts living up to its name. The 128 v 128 player maps can get intense and this is one of the very few online games where going solo will effect the outcome of the match.

My advice would be to use the voice chat and communicate with your squad. I have seen a very organised Squad breach the enemy defences faster than the defences could be mounted. It is the Squad play that really opens up this game due to the fact that each player has his place and his use and this helps pull the player into the game.

As far as functionality of the game goes I would say it works well. I have never noticed any noticeable slow down in connection speed, even in the larger matches and the menu system works as well as expected.

So to conclude this convoluted review. The game is good fun once you get access to the larger game types. The squad element is critical to fully enjoying the game and choosing a class you are comfortable with helps set your place in a Squad. Just remember we can't all be leaders! The only bad point I have that stands out is the fact that, as will all massive online games it takes a while for the games true self to show. Once more players reach the higher levels and more battlegrounds are unlocked, this game will come into its own.

Love MAG, so misunderstood by people who want to pick it up and expect to be great at it. It takes time and effort. Awesome game.

4 out of 5 stars MAG Review   February 24, 2010
Yathushan Sivarajah (London, England)
I felt that this game proved that graphics is not everything that is required in a game. However, it does not mean that it should be totally ignored altogether. The graphics displayed are of good quality but not the greatest seen so far when compared to the likes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

While most people draw straight comparisons between these two great games. I feel that they both excel in their different genres. As MAG is a MMOFPS (massively multiplayer on-line first person shooter), it has been created with a tendency towards smooth, cohesive on-line play which it provides. However, since Call of Duty doesn't have to deal with such a large number of players the processor is tasked with handling more complex physic algorithms.

Overall, I felt this game is well worth the money spent and with hints of further free expansions on the way. I can't wait!!!
