Continuum Shift is actually a pseudo-sequel, essentially a revamped and retold version of last yearís BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger. I might consider buying the game at a lower price, since I already own the Limited Edition. 3 out of 5 stars Cliche Anime Characters In A Great Fighting Game!   July 20, 2010

Im going to explain the good points of the game, the characters fighting styles are very different and unique, no 2 characters seem to play the same. The action is quite fast-paced, blazblue is quite beginner friendly as button-mashing can get you along with the easier characters but there is alot of depth so people who want can spend the time and discover how to master each character and learn all the moves and tactics. The backgrounds are so beautiful and polished! Theres a pratice mode , versus mode, arcade mode, story mode, gallery, replay theatre, and online, Forgive me if i left one out!

-Replay theatre records your online matches automatically and so you can view the fight again to learn from your mistakes or victory which is very handy and helpful!
-Gallery lets you view art clips from the story mode and just artwork from the developers, you can also listen to sounds from the game like characters phrases and the announcers phrases!
-Online is pretty standard, there is little customistion for custom matches, also there is quick match which is just randomly links you to a player, ranked matches dont work well, i was level 1 and it couldnt find me another player so the odds are already against me and so i selected quick match and i got linked to a level 13 opponent!
Online is difficult and you need to know how to play blazblue in order to stand a chance!
-Versus Mode is where you can customise whatever you like. 1-2 players, choose your stage, music etc.
-Arcade mode here is the usual arcade mode where you fight through 10 computer controlled opponents. If you have 2 controllers attached to your PS3, a second player can jump in an fight against you.
-Pratice mode is where you can train against a "dummy" who wont fight back so you can see the best way to attack a certain character also there alot of customisation in this mode and its fantastic dont overlook it!
-Story mode is just telling the back-stories to characters, can get abit confusing as each character has a different side of a story but its easy enough to follow, you just listen to the story and then encounter a character and fight them and then repeat!

One problem with blazblue is the characters are unique but personally i find them cliche and many have anime-style personailty, like tao constantly eating sounds so familar to anime show characters :P, Carl-clover looks like he could have come from yu-qi-oh, , Tager looks familar and again looks like he got stolen from another anime-show/game, Arakune looks similar to "No Face" from spirited away (an anime film)
In general the Anime meter goes through the roof with the characters and it will put a few off!
Thats my only problem with the game but none the less a good fighting game but beware if you hate anime youll hate this so keep it in mind when buying!

3 out of 5 stars BLAZBLUE: IS IT FOR YOU?   June 10, 2010

Guilty gear had me hooked, I'm not ashamed to admit I was a total fan boy and Sol Badguy is one of my all-time favourite game characters ever, right next to Rick from Splatterhouse and Kratos from the GOW trilogy. When I worked for Sony in thier QA department Guilty Gear stood as my favourite 2 weeks of testing in 4 years on the job. So how does Arc's new kid on the block stand up to Guilty Gear and all the rest of the beat `em up rabble on the shelves at the moment? Read on to find out more:

THE GOOD:
- The animation is smooth and flows like an absolute dream...albeit a crazy wacked out dream featuring blobs that jet out random insect limbs and strange vampire girls with weird catlike familiars.
- As touched upon above the characters are inventive and strange although not as unique as they first appear, but more on this later.
- The controls are responsive and sharp as the razor edged weapons on display in game.
- The backgrounds are truly stunning, my favourite is the spooky castle with the rose bed and numerous grimacing pumpkins and ghouls dotted about it`s haunted grounds.
- The soundtrack is cheesy, thumping, guitar widdles that fit nicely with the equally O.T.T. action blurring across the screen.
- Sound effects give the whole thing a spine of steel and sound great blasting through my sound system.
- Some of the moves are impressive and others are so ludicrous and bizarre they beg for jaws to drop - in a good way.
- The control system is easy to pick up and learn, especially for old hands at guilty gear such as myself, but there is enough depth to keep you delving.
- Both Japanese and English vocalisations are on offer which is very nice.
- Tons of stuff to unlock such as art, new `Astral' moves and lengthy stories to follow.
- Plenty of modes to battle through including online madness that, so far, has sight nor sound of lag.

THE BAD:
- The whole clichéd anime jive may put a lot of people off, I mean this is the full on, blue spiky hair, typical peed off and loopy weirdo protagonists and hideously contrived story lines manga experience cranked up to 11.
- A lot of the dialog is cringe worthy and anyone over 15 will find themselves gritting their teeth on a fair few occasions.
- The characters are all just slightly reworked, and not as cool, versions of their Guilty Gear counterparts and some even look near enough the same (e.g. Sol and Ragna, Potemkin and Iron Tager and Zappa and the equally strange Arakune to name but a few). It begs the question why not give us an all new Guilty gear experience, cut out some of the lesser characters and plonk in some new ones but work it all with that current gen graphical prowess. I know this is Guilty Gears `spiritual successor' but most of it is just a plain rehash.
- 12 Characters just isn't enough, sorry but it isn't no matter their quality.
- Even if you learn all the ins and outs of the fighting system there are some of these mere 12 characters that just don't rack up against some of the other overly powerful brutes, and therefore the title feels unbalanced at times.
- The reviews of this game (except this one) will give you the impression that this is something so different and new that we as mere gamers will be stunned at its majesty...well as you can see by my above points it doesn't really live up to the hype (just look at IGN's bloated brown-nosing of a review). Do not be fooled this is just Guilty Gear with a few brass nobs on.

THE UGLY TRUTH:
Did you dig the guilty gear series? Do you like 2d fighters in general? Does the mere mention of Garou: Mark of the Wolves send you to realms of heavenly gaming bliss? Then this is for you - you'll find much to like but not reams of innovation as a lot of reviews would have you believe. With so many quality fighting games coming and going of late BB's graphical style and teeny goth/anime world will surely make it a sure winner for a lot of fighting gamer buffs but is it the best of the bunch? I don't think it is, don't get me wrong it doesn't miss the mark by a long way but I was expecting a lot more.

the game is just GREAT !

Game design is fresh and new, gameplay is very similar to what Guilty Gear XX user to be (same developpers) and I think beginners as well as good fighting games players will enjoy this game for a long time !

The netplay is LAG FREE !

And for the collector edition we have a great artbook, and a good DVD tutorial to learn the basics.

A must-have for all 2D fighting game players.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome game for any fighting fan or any gamer !!   May 4, 2010

I was recommended to BlazBlue by some mates on Facebook who told me to get this game as it is awesome. They said the online multi-player is 'lag free' and I should get involved. So I did....it's amazing !!!!!!! BlazBlue is a game for everyone (as I am the worst gamer of all my mates), but even I can beat my mates at this as it is sooooo easy to pick up.....I can even do the special moves which is something I have always struggled to do with other fighting games.
If you want a game that is great fun, easy to play and has a multi-player option that is awesome, then go and buy this now !!!!
