Product Description

Renaissance Italy isn't the usual sort of setting for a video game, but then Assassin's Creed isn't one to play by the rules. Ezio Auditore di Firenze is yet another ancestor of modern day Desmond Miles - a nobleman out to avenge the death of his family in the guise of a shadowy assassin.

Like the last game you're given total freedom to explore multiple cities, but with greatly improved parkour skills and the new ability to swim. There's also a lot more variety in the missions you undertake - the main complaint with the original game- so you'll never feel you're just doing the same tasks over and over again.

Combat has also been completely overhauled, with dozens of different weapons and a new health system. With no less than Leonardo da Vinci acting as your very own Q style gadget master this stunning sequel improves on every element of the original.

  • Renaissance man: Play as an all-new character in 15th century Italy, with new abilities, new weapons and a whole new world to explore.
  • The spice of life: Massively improved mission variety, with new freeform mission structures and many more random events.
  • Tools of the trade: All-new combat system lets you steal weapons from your opponents, use dual hidden blades and even an early form of pistol.
  • Real history: Meet historical figures such as Leonardo da Vinci, Niccol Machiavelli and Lorenzo de' Medici, all of whom can offer you their own unique brand of aid.
  • Tourist spots: Explore real world locations including Rome, Venice, Florence and Tuscany, as well as specific landmarks such as the Grand Canal and St Mark's Basilica.

Ezio is just as dangerous an assassin as his forebear
Da Vinci's glider is just one of the gadgets on offer
The level of detail in the graphics is astonishing
The canals of Venice come in very handy for stealth attacks

4 out of 5 stars It's good   July 29, 2010
An oasis fan
Assassin's creed 1 was ok. ish. But this is such an improvement over the original that it is barely recognizable as being in the same series. It addresses all but two faults that were noticeable in the first game. Repetition has been thrown clear out of the window. Swimming is now an option, which makes things SO much easier. You can buy new weapons, armour and other stuff from shops, upgrade your uncle's villa and get so many great new offensive tools, such as the pistol, a poison blade and double hidden blades (so cool to jump off roofs assassinating people!!). The story line is nothing short of excellent, arcing over about 25 years. The side-missions are sometimes more engaging than the story missions, which says something. And, of course, it ends with another cliff hanger which leads the series nicely up to Assassin's Creed III.

However, the two faults are VERY obvious almost from the beginning. The difficulty is one. The AI is RIDICULOUSLY EASY TO kill, as you will discover after being in a fight surrounded by ten guards and not get even a scratch. You ask yourself: what is the point of being stealthy if I can just march straight in and kill absolutely everyone? Seriously? This definitely retracts from its play value and fun, mainly because you can complete the game far quicker without a feeling of accomplishment. Also, as its title suggests, this game should be about STEALTHY, UNDETECTED and, above all, PERFECT assassinations. This is NOT the feeling you get after being in some assassination missions.

The second fault is less prevalent, but still, it is certainly there. The background graphics of the cities and countryside may be excellent, but the characters are not. There are several points of bodies not falling off roofs properly, or capes poking through walls. Added onto this is the ever-frequent screen-tearing that sucks you far out of the experience.

In conclusion, this game is brilliant, whatever its faults. It is certainly a must-buy, especially if you felt the first game was repetitive and/or just generally like good games. However, its imperfections force me not to see this game as perfect, as I was so badly wishing for. To address the issues, they should simply consult the graphics artists of GOW III/Uncharted 2 and add a difficulty setting. If its two minor blemishes were removed, then it would have a definite five stars and would be game of the year, if not the decade.

2 out of 5 stars Boring and average graphics   July 22, 2010

Not a great game, quite linear story, nothing really new. But the most disappointing bit is the graphics. Not so much the cities which are quite well drawn and realistic but the characters. They look awful, I've got PC games from the 90s who looked better than that! The faces are super squared (or triangular more like it) and the characters movement are simplistic. Probably a PC (or even worse Xbox...) port to the PS3. Anybody who likes the graphics should buy any Japanese RPG and compare them with this game. I know graphics are not all, but I did not get a PS3 to play games with characters who looked so ugly.

1 out of 5 stars Massively Overhyped...   July 19, 2010

What a let down. This could have been so unique and fantastic, but fails to stand out after you play more than 10 minutes, it's like a broken record repeating itself over and over...

Sure the visuals are good, the climbing is fun (though I preferred it in Infamous) and the setting is beautiful but that's about it. The story is abysmal nonsense (the fact that there is a supernatural element later on really killed it), the gameplay is repetitive and boring, the controls are awful, the script is a joke, I could go on but I'd rather not waste my time thinking about this for one more second.

Even if you manage to find some enjoyment out of this, you'll very unlikely ever play through it again (unless you like being tortured).
Do yourself a favour and get anything else.

5 out of 5 stars Better then the first   July 13, 2010

If you have played the first assassins creed your going to love this one im going to start with the graphics. The graphics are like the first assassins creed but a bit better. Now im going to talk about the story the story is better then the first its about a man who has a family and three out of five of them get hanged for something they did not do and he gose and gets revenge on those who kiled three out of five of his family and come acros something bigger now with the featurs in the second one in the first one you could not have diffrent weapons only the ones you were givin in the second one you can have lots of diffrent weapons like mace and lots more. This is one of the best games ive played and you should buy it and if you do get this one you are going to love assassins creed brotherhood.

4 out of 5 stars Andiamo   June 22, 2010

I really enjoyed this game. The graphics and setting are excellent, with fantastically realised towns and cities alive with people and atmosphere. Good mixture of missions, varied gameplay, a good story and likeable/enjoyable character to play.

I like the idea of the factions battling across time but personally find the modern day aspects reminding you are not actually Ezio break the mood.

Some of the later puzzles are really very cryptic, had to resort to the internet for help

Some have mentioned the combat is too easy. I think I get what the developers wanted to convey, that you are stronger, faster and more skilful than your opponents, and that the fun is in revelling in this, orchestrating the fights. However, I do think they went too far, it is virtually impossible to be defeated. When you can take on a dozen men and be surrounded with no thought of losing, it makes the blending/hiding aspects of the game almost redundant.

Nevertheless, glad i bought it and thoroughly enjoyed it.
