I kind of bought this game as a laugh having recently got into the brilliant game of poker, expecting basic graphics, small lifespan and dumbed-down gameplay. However, I was to be surprised as this game really does make competing for nothing in terms of real money quite enjoyable still. The career mode is awesome, as you can create a character and give them a designated voice before embarking upon events in the World Series of Poker. There are many different events you can compete in (up to 43) throughout the "season", as such, and if you make the cut in certain events, you will win prize money which goes into your bankroll for entering tournaments and updating elements in your own "poker room". Also in the career mode is the ability to compete one on one with some of the world's finest poker players, in the "Beat the Brat" tournament, by which you work your way through opponents until finally plying your skills against either Phil "the poker brat" Hellmuth or Jonny Chan. The lifespan is clearly very large and the graphics are impressive, yet, dissapointingly, I cannot give this game 5 stars for 2 reasons. Firstly, to play multiplayer you have to go online, which is difficult for those with no network adapter, so you can't simply have your mates round for a game of playstation poker, frustratingly. Secondly, it takes absolutely ages for the game to load and when it begins, it automatically loads your career mode, which is efficient if you wish to go on this mode but irritating if you don't. Despite these last issues, I would still say that this game has impressed me and that I would recommend it to those who wish to take a break from competing for real money.
