 Not exactly what I was looking for but good fun anyway June 6, 2010

I was looking for a game for my PS3 that was like Derby Owners Club. I play that game whenever I go to the local Dave & Busters. This game is the closest thing I could find. While it isn't exactly what I was looking for, it is still fun. It is repetitive but I was expecting that.
People say there is a steep learning curve but I disagree. The tutorial and instruction book tell you pretty much everything you need to know. There are 3 ways to control the horse when you race so just choose the style that fits the way you like to play games. I am not saying it is easy; you will still have to practice and learn how to train, but the controls are pretty straight forward.
I live in the U.S. and was having trouble finding this game and when I did, it was selling for an outrageous amount. Came over to the UK Amazon and found it for a great price. It is good to have choices. :)

I had decided to purchase a PS3 and I had played this game on the Wii before, but the graphics, together with the HDMI cable, are much better. Ok, the characters don't speak, but I don't mind that. Training your own horse is ok, although some of the exercises could be a bit easier to do. After falling off at the jumping, I've never had the nerve to enable the falls in the game!

purchased this thinking it was more strategy/simulation game but was surprised that you can actually race the horses, it is involved and very diffcult to keep the horse trotting and last place always beckons, I suppose I must try harder!

G1 Jockey 2008 is highly enjoyable and addictive but fails for a few reasons:
1. The graphics have not improved (dramatically) since the 2003 version on the PS2.
2. The inbetween races scenes in story mode are over long, cliched and date from the ice age - surely a few voice actors and such are not too expensive rather than having to read stuff over and over.
3. The training system could certainly be better.
However, if you want to be a jockey, this is the closest most of us will get and the actual racing is good fun, if you don't ride your horse to its style you won't do well and if you are on a donkey, the good horses will beat you even if you run a great race - the playability is great.
They've attempted to use the sixaxis controller thing, but I got frustrated with trying and soon went back to the normal controls - full marks for effort though and maybe someone else will say it works well - it would improve the addictiveness fully working.
I would recommend this game, but hope that a future release see next-gen graphics rather than what appears to be a PS2 port with minimal effort to upgrade - unfortunetly in a world where graphics is king - G1 Jockey will suffer because of it. However for £17.99 you can't really complain.
