All too often people start their reviews with ''the graphics are awful, but..''.
It infuriates me that people seem incapable of looking past the glossy veneer.
The games market is absolutely saturated with jaw-dropping games, astounding graphics, dazzling sound, massive production values, movie tie-in's, and sickly-sweet eye candy. It's so easy to forget that there are plenty of good games out there that don't need all the bells and whistles to be enjoyable.
Stormrise is such a game.
It is a real-time strategy game, loosely based on the industry leading Command and Conquer series. ie, there's been some kind of war, you pick which side to fight for, you complete missions and collect rewards.
The controls are very fiddly, and will frustrate you within minutes of your first play. -but persevere and the learning curve will start to even out.
There is a lot of game here for your money. A lot of extras, plenty of re-play value, and enough options and settings to satisfy most.
The AI is awful. That much is true. But so what? Sure the cpu controled opponents are predictable, but that doesn't mean the game is any easier to beat than a more advanced counterpart. Difficulty is not directly proportional to intelligence.
Graphics seem to play such a big part in today's games, they seem so important to people. So what is there to say about Stormrise's graphics? Well, by today's standards they are sub-par. They're certainly not dripping with honey like Red Alert, but again, this doesn't detract from the experience.
I've had my copy for about 9 weeks. I'll probably trade it in when I've fully completed it (elite), but that is still a lot of entertainment for the money. Not all of us want to spend [] quid on a game.
In short, this game is perfectly playable. Just because something is mediocre doesn't mean it's awful.
Broaden your horizons take a gamble. There are some real bargains to be had in the depths of the sub ten pounds arena.

endwar is brilliant strategic game but stormrise is pethetic, the graphic are ok but the gameplay is worst than dynasty warriors 6 and valkary chronicles!!!

When I first saw and heard about this game it sounded so promising. When I finished playing it after a mammoth session, i only had one thought. "What were they thinking?", and not in a good way either.
Real Time Strategy games (RTS) have never really worked on console, and sadly this is another failed attempt. The only really good things about this game are the presentation and the unique 'whip-select' control method. Sadly every other aspect of the game from graphics to sound to the diabolical AI is a real let down. Dont expect a Command & Conquer or even a Halo Wars. Because this game is not in the same ball park as either of those. Probably best to avoid this one. Maybe give it a rental to try it out. Unfortunately I hated it.
